TOP 10 HOME DECOR TREND 2014
Admittedly, some of these ideas of interior design trends in 2014, are not ‘fresh’ in the literal sense of the word, some are…
1. Merging indoors & out – the end of the distinction between indoors and out
“To be in and feel out. I believe that to be a key issue in understanding the interior design, it means to create. During periods of increased environmental awareness and of course the desire to be close to nature.”
Daylight, Night-lighting textures, wide open into nature. Complete by blurring the boundaries between inside and outside, we can create a strong connection with nature, unreality surrounding urban and diving infinite space.
The trend in recent years leading to a green living environment, conservation of nature and our reservoirs, many designers, to create a wonderful loft/ houses/penthouse that erased boundaries and the external environment plays a major role. Nature a central role in the massive use the entry light into the house. Using materials that integrate with the outside creating a perfect harmony home.
Today, we design our house with big French doors or large windows that merging our home and garden / outside view.
Folding glass or seamless doors that cantilever right back so as to be unobtrusive when open are the key to merging indoors without. Putting as much glass as possible into the room that leads to the garden inevitably brings the outdoors in. If you do this, ensure your view is a good one – even if that just means a small, but neat garden. If you don’t have a wonderful view or a large garden to make the space beyond your living area attractive to look at, try some dramatic planting, smart garden furniture, lots of greenery and a strong color scheme.
When we like to merge in and out, we must choose garden furniture that would look just as good indoors is a trick that you can use to blur the indoor/outdoor divide. Use colored garden furniture to reflect the color scheme in the room nearest the garden is a really easy and affordable way to link the two spaces visually.
2. Turquoise
It was everywhere and we expect to see it in 2014. Perhaps this is the culmination of all the blues and greens we’ve been seeing in the past couple of years. Turquoise showed up in upholstery, wall coverings, and on furniture. And we’re talking deep and saturated, not pale and wimpy.
3. Rugs
The popular hide rugs have climbed up onto sofas and chairs and even to tables and consoles. You’ll want to pet the furniture in the months ahead.
4. Ethnic Prints
Ethnic fabrics, upholstery and prints look like they will be a popular trend this year. Adding a fresh pizzazz to your home from far off exotic lands can break up boring bland interiors and if authentic, can be fantastic conversational pieces. So if you see a cushion, print or covering which is oozing with culture this year; don’t shy away.
5. 2014 colors
Beige is one of those color palettes which has been a favorite for years. It is a safe color, it’s timeless and it works well as a base color for exciting splashes of color accents. It doesn’t have the edge it once has and its popularity has been waning over the past few years. I as well as countless other designers share the sentiment that the popularity of beige will continue in its demise. It’s one of those which will stay around in some form of strength but it’s lost its luster. This year we will see a continuation of the unwinding of a strong but sterile trend.
Compatible Colors & Accents: In 2014 there’ll be a move towards versatility. Instead of having one set look, we’ll see a base hues enlivened with accents of color which’ll bring a monotonous box into a fresh lively room. We’re talking bright chromatic splashes over unsaturated undertones. It’s a fresh and lively trend which invigorates the senses and perks up the spirit.
The color of 2014 by Pantone’s Fashion Color Report is Radiant Orchid!
Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.
6. Glamour
This is all about creating mood. Huge expanses of plain white, lifeless walls will be replaced with interest, mood and character. Think daring and valorous, making a statement with every element of the design. Interesting and metallic accessories will be the perfect accompaniment; supplementing, complimenting and adding to the glam.
“Move over white walls, in 2014 we’ll be seeing rooms with a lot more drama and glamour. Dark, moody walls in black will be the perfect backdrop to the metallic accessories that we’re all loving right now.” — Jeanine Hays, aphrochic.com
7. Vintage Wonders
Vintage and one-of-a-kind pieces will be highly sought after. It’s the curiosities that make a house a home and keep your guests asking: “Where did you get that?”
If years before we used to see people throw everything when the parents goon, now we see that we look for lovely vintage pieces.
8. Blossoming Prints
“Floral and Chintz: These tried-and-true fabrics are popping up everywhere in fashion and decor. Mix them with other graphic patterns for a modern look.” — Stacey Bewkes, quintessenceblog.com
Floral designs and chant textiles are a growing trend, not only in the interior design world, but also in other markets such as fashion. When there is a lap over of a particular trend in more than one vertical market, in this case floral, the trend has a tendency to have staying power; the perfect storm one might say. This will be a strong trend in 2014 that you’ll see popping up everywhere, from billboards, shop windows, interior designs and commercials. Floral textiles are a great option for any new designs.
9. Mix and Match
There was a time when mixing metals, whether in home decor or jewelry, was considered a faux pas. While the idea still meets resistance from some, designs that employ a strict rule of not mixing metals often fall a bit flat. Whether you choose to take a subtle approach by pairing small chrome drawer pulls with antiqued bronze doorknobs, or go bold by combining an oversized copper light fixture with a silvery mirrored table, mixing and matching metals is a sure-fire way to bring a layered richness to any space.
10. Myriad of Blues
The palette is brought full circle with Radiant Orchid, a bold counterpart to Violet Tulip, and Dazzling Blue, a scintillating, polar opposite to Placid Blue. Surprisingly, these strong, vibrant colors also pair well across the palette: They are perfect companions to pastels, and add confidence and vivacity when mixed with other bold colors.
